DOK-ING to Showcase Cutting-Edge Robotic NRE Fleet at Electra Mining Africa
GROUNDBREAKING INNOVATIONS IN UNDERGROUND MINING
Zagreb, Croatia, 12.07.2024 – DOK-ING, a leading engineering powerhouse specializing in heavy-duty robotics and autonomous systems, is set to showcase an innovative electric robotic NRE fleet at Electra Mining Africa, in Johannesburg, South Africa At this premier event, DOK-ING will showcase its cutting-edge robotic systems, which were specially designed for the extraction of platinum and gold in South Africa, the world’s largest producer of platinum. Visit DOK-ING at booth No. A12, Hall 8, to see these revolutionary robotic systems live.
Redefining Underground Mining
Unique innovative NRE robots, standing at only 65 cm tall, can access the world’s lowest mines and operate on slopes up to 22°, compared to conventional machines which are limited to 10° slopes, setting new standards in the underground mining industry.
Market Competitiveness and Safety
“The possibility of working on higher slopes allows the exploitation of deposits that are inaccessible or unprofitable using conventional machines and significant savings due to greater flexibility in mine design.”, stated Luka Petro, Mining Program Manager at DOK-ING and continued: “The electric drive eliminates noise and impact of exhaust gases in confined spaces and reduces the carbon footprint of the overall exploitation process. Mechanization of the production process increases production efficiency and drastically reduces risks for workers, thereby increasing their safety.”
Remote-Controlled Efficiency
The NRE fleet is remotely controlled, eliminating the need for personnel in unsecured areas. The fully automated roof drilling and anchoring operations further enhance operator safety, ensuring a safer and more efficient mining process. The fleet consists of three robotic systems: NRE dozer, NRE Support Rig and NRE Drill Rig which seamlessly complete the drilling, cleaning, and anchoring processes.
Enhanced Productivity and Cost Savings
The NRE technology enables mechanised exploitation in ultra-low profiles (0.9 m to 1.7 m), increasing safety, productivity, and ore concentration while reducing capital investment and operating costs by up to 35% and 30% respectively. This innovation shortens the payback period from 11 years to 5 years. With the development and production of NRE, DOK-ING is expanding its product range and bringing innovation to the mining industry and pushing the boundaries of the efficiency of mining methods.
Strategic Partnership and Industry Impact
The NRE Fleet was developed for the Anglo-American Group, a global leader in platinum exports, and DOK-ING’s robots are set to revolutionise the mining industry. The Anglo-American Group, with a 100-year business tradition, is the world’s leading primary producer of Platinum Group Metals (PGM), which are crucial in various industries and medical devices.
